Melissa was brought up in Sussex in a house surrounded by a beautiful walled garden where she first gained her love of flowers. As a child Melissa would walk through the oak forests beyond the garden, gathering wild flowers which she would display in JamJars on the kitchen table.
After school and a brief interlude at the Drama Centre she worked as a stylist and casting director before starting her business, Take 2 Model Management, in 1982 at the age of 26. In 2009 after 27 years of trading Melissa decided that she wanted a complete change of direction. Inspired by a nostalgia for her childhood, the idea of JamJar Flowers was conceived. She finds that working with flowers has more similarities than she had imagined with representing models in that both hang their heads and droop if you don’t treat them nicely.
Since it's early beginnings JamJar has developed in ways that Melissa could not have imagined. There is nothing she likes more than a challenge to find new and interesting ways of using flowers to enhance a product or make a celebration especially beautiful or imaginative.
Melissa is married to Charlie Alexander and has a stepson, a son and a daughter. They live in Brixton.
